Today is our fourth day in Saigon and I still love it. Our hotel is in a nice area, not too close from downtown so we don't see that many backpackers and tourists. Yesterday we went to see the Pham Ngu Lao area and it was strange to see that many white guys.
It's definitely a very strange city, it never seems to sleep. Even at 1AM, the streets are filled with honking mopeds. Walking anywhere is an experience: you have to dodge motorcycles, step over holes in the pavement, beware of litter, etc. Walking around with a kid is even more special, as Raphaël draws all the stares. People shout at him from the other side of the street, smile at him, touch him. So far he was given one of those typical conical hats, a big inflatable frog and pastries.
I love the noise, I love the controlled chaos, I even love the filth and the polluted air.
